I have owned Dells for the past 10 years and have never had one issue with any of their machines. This laptop is no exception. I would recommend the laptop for the average user who isn’t a big gamer and isn’t working on memory-intensive High Def video editing.

I’ve had a Dell Inspiron for a little over a year, and it’s been a constant problem. Multiple home visits to replace parts, technicians that have come to fix the machine and end up breaking it; calls to Indian customer service that route me to non-working telephone numbers; any requests to talk to a manager result in being cut-off. The machine has been down for probably a month in the past 12 months. An incredibly poor level of support and hardware.

I own two Milwaukee corded sawzalls and their main use is for heavy demolition. We have five sawzalls (all Milwaukee) within our crew all together and they’re all handled pretty roughly, yet they last though whatever you throw at them. I was pretty uneasy about the idea of a cordless sawzall back when the 18v was the most powerful cordless available… I doubted it could ever keep up with a corded sawzall.

When Milwaukee came out with their V28 line, I purchased the hammer drill and was outright shocked at how much more powerful it was then the 18v I had. After a month of use, I decided the pick up the V28 sawzall too. The very first day, I knew I had a winner. Although when cutting out old, extra-thick studs, you can feel a difference in power between the corded and cordless, the V28 sawzall definitely held its own and didn’t lock up once. Just before lunch, I was cutting through a pipe and the sawzall seemed to suddenly die. At first, I thought I broke the thing, but quickly realized that the battery charge ran out. When they say that the power lasts until the very last minute, they REALLY mean it.

Another thing I love about the V28 line is the battery charge meter. I find it very useful to be able to take a quick look and find which of my batteries could use a charge, rather then finding out when you need them. It’s a feature I’m finding more and more useful.

The only disappointment is the case that comes with the kit… it’ll hold a third battery if you were to purchase one, but it doesn’t have enough room between everything to hold extra blades. The compartment they have in the case is about half the size of the one in the corded sawzall case I have, so I can carry less blades. I wish they would go back to the metal cases, but since that’s unlikely, all I can hope for is that they’ll work more room into the cases for extra accessories.

The sawzall is one of my most used tools, particularly when first starting a job when demolition is most needed. Being free from the cord outshines the power difference that the corded models have over the V28 sawzall. Although I won’t be getting rid of my corded sawzalls yet, the V28 certainly is, and will continue to be, my top choice. I think Milwaukee finally got them to the point where their shortcomings will be completely overlooked and a cordless sawzall will be as common as the cordless drill.

UPDATE: I’ve been using this on the job for well over a year now and it has seated itself as one of the most important tools on site. Unless a second sawzall is needed, the corded sawzalls aren’t even unloaded from the trucks anymore. It has more then enough power to tackle ANY job we’ve needed it for… only slightly outpowered by the 11-amp models, but clearly more powerful then the 6-amp models. The fact that we can move around without being tethered down by a cord has made this everyone’s favorite.

It’s absorbed drops from as high as 10 feet onto plywood flooring without skipping a beat, and there’s been no noticeable decline in performance from the batteries (comparing them to a battery I just recently bought). I still don’t like the case though.

I highly recommend this tool to anyone needing a sawzall for professional use.

Milwaukee 0719-22 V28 Sawzall Lithium-Ion Cordless Reciprocating Saw Kit

My advice is to consider buying this Sawzall as part of the Milwaukee 0928-29 V28 Cordless 4-Tool Combo Kit. For $200 more, you’ll get the V28 Hammer Drill/Driver, the V28 circular saw, and the V28 flashlight. All are excellent and designed for day-in day-out contractor use.

Cons:

- Milwaukee should incorporate a rotating handle that locks in the normal position, 90 degrees left, or 90 degrees right (similar to the handle on the SuperHawg drill); or, better yet, have a variable angle head like the Porter Cable Tiger Claw.

Pros:

- 28 volt Lithium-Ion batteries; the highest voltage available, and longest lasting, batteries; 3rd generation technology. The only reason to buy a 1st generation NiCad tool is, you can’t afford NiMH or Lithium-Ion. Either one is far superior to NiCad.

- V28 power. This is my 3rd reciprocating saw, and the one I use most of the time. It’s not as powerful as my 11.5 amp Porter Cable saw, but it handles most house renovation tasks. Not having a cord is, of course, the huge plus of this tool.

- Press a button on a V28 battery and 1 to 4 LEDs will shine, indicating remaining power. You’ll know if it needs a charge BEFORE climbing the ladder, etc.

- Excellent ergonomics; comfortable handle and rubberized front grip, good switch function. Battery is NOT reversible, in spite of the Amazon sales pitch, but it really doesn’t need to be.

- Quick and easy tool-less blade change. Takes about 1 second to remove or insert a blade. It’s so easy, I remove the blade when transporting the saw or putting it in a tool case.

- Speed switch has all the choices needed: LOW, Lock, HIGH. Lock disables the ON switch. I use lock when removing the battery, changing the blade, or just carrying the saw with a blade installed.

- This is a terrific saw for tree or heavy brush pruning. With the 9″ Milwaukee pruning blade (or a 12″ wood blade), you can cut down decent-sized trees. Corded saws can be dangerous on such jobs, as the cords get in the way, get tangled in brush, or can trip you up; besides, the further a job is from a 110v receptacle, the more impractical a cord becomes.

- Tool is guaranteed for 5 years, parts and labor. (Register online at Milwaukee dot com.) Batteries are guaranteed for 2 years at full replacement, and prorated for 3 more years.

Summary:

I have to agree with Fine Woodworking’s 2008 Tool Guide, which calls Milwaukee’s cordless line-up, “the best tools for serious work”.

I own 4 cordless recip saws and hands down by far this is the most powerful. Not only does the battery last a long time but the dual speed makes it work in all applications. Hands down this is the best!

After receiving ASUS UL50AG-A1 I booted it up which proved to be quite easy. The keyboard took a little getting

used to since the keys are very close together and appear to be too far to the left. The computer would often shut down in the middle of a task to install updates which was very frustrating. Another problem I encountered: I was preparing a Power Point presentation and when I tried to made corrections to the text, it would insert a Chinese translation for my text even though I did not request that. All my efforts to remove the Chinese translation proved futile so I ended up re-doing the presentation with the corrections. I have not tested the battery life to see if it lives up to the 11 hour limit but it seems to last a long time while unplugged and I have had no problems with the battery.

I am still undecided whether I will keep it - I need to see if I can get some of the kinks out of it.

I have the 22 inch version of this model line (Samsung LN-22A330) for my bedroom, and am VERY impressed. The picture quality is fantastic, and it has settings where you can fine tune the settings for individual channels.

I have it on every morning for the news while I’m getting ready for work, and every night as I wind down and fall asleep (very appreciative of the person who first installed sleep timers on TVs).

I like everything about this unit, including the “tools” function on the remote for the most-used items in my house (including the sleep functions). There are “fun” settings, too…where you can choose not only your energy savings level, but also what type of image you’re watching…a “movie” versus reg tv….it deepens the color beautifully without actually changing the colors.

The only item I find disconcerting is the sheer amount of time it takes to respond to turning the unit ‘on’. Once you hit Power, just ignore it and ……………………………………………THEN you’ll hear the tones turning it on (tones may be set at different volumes and even turned off if you poke around in the menu long enough to find it).

Given time, I’ll certainly get used to the amount of time it is, but for now it’s bothersome as there is no other indicator that you actually hit the button correctly (the light on the power button on the tv doesn’t flash at first, nothing).

If I needed to replace this 22″ unit for some reason, I’d buy the same model again in a heartbeat. Very pleased with Samsung’s 330 line. Excellent value for the price for a bedroom tv.

I gave it 4 stars only because something has to be absolutely spectacular for me to give it 5 stars. Pretty much anything good that has been said about the set is true. I do have to take exception with the comments that it takes a long time to turn on. I took a stopwatch to it with the following results. From the time I pressed the power button it took 2.5 seconds for the “welcome tune” and about 9 seconds to deliver a picture. I expect that most people can live with that. I have two Sony Bravia sets that take about the same amount of time to start up. Overall, it’s a very good set and a solid value.

I bought this product after reading the prior reviews. We bought this for a large bedroom and it is a great match for the room, great picture and excellent sound quality. This arrived two days after ordering via UPS even with the savings shipping. I would buy again.

I purchased the ‘4070′ when I was getting tired of paying for the ink cartridges in my HP DeskJet 6840, especially for ‘everyday’ home printing (online order confirmations, homework, drawings, etc.) I was also looking for a printer to operate on a Mac network. This one is great! The wireless feature allows you to ‘plop’ this thing down wherever there’s a power cord and setup is fairly easy. It’s a single-pass unit (e.g. color and B&W printing are the same print speed) and has duplexing built in. Does a ‘realistic’ job with color photos (not overly saturated). I don’t think it’s too noisy as previous reviews have stated, but it’s certainly not as quiet as an inkjet. The cartridges are neatly laid out in a removable ‘drum’ tray, making changeout that much easier. I particularly like the LCD display with 3 backdrop colors (green for ‘everythings okeydokey’, amber for ‘I’m in maintenance mode, so don’t bother me’ and red for ‘Help!’. This screen tilts out so you can read it more easily as you walk by it. There are some notes for those Mac (maybe windoze too???)folks that I’d like to bring up:

1) get the latest firmware update - especially for PDF files, the first version of firmware caused all sorts of problems where files didn’t print at all. It may not be an issue, but as I got one of the first ones out I got the original firmware version.

2) memory - get more! Especially if you use the BR3 (Brother’s PostScript3 emulator) you’ll need at least another 64 MB just to make it work. There may be some confusion as to which memory it takes, but the notch in the connector indicates that it’s an SDRAM. I pulled memory out of an old laptop I was parting out and works fine.

If you’re looking for a cheaper, water-resistant printout, especially if you need duplex, this is your printer!

UPDATE - almost 2 years later and still running strong. I’d recommend locating the ‘TN-115′ series of cartridges as the ‘TN-110’s don’t last nearly as long. Unfortunately, many traditional brick-and-mortar stores only carry the 110’s

I own a small business and I needed a printer to high volume jobs, including eye catching color, and a clean presentation. After a week of solid research on the internet (there aren’t many reliable resources), I was down to the decision between the HP and Brother.

After speaking with a very informed salesperson at Office Max, I decided to go with the Brother. Well rated, quick output, and the consumables cost was also low. However, upon getting the unit home, I quickly noticed something annoying. (This ended up being a deal breaker for me; however, it may not bother some people.)

The final paper product comes out of the printer with curled edges. Literally, the top and bottom edge of the paper stock comes out curled. If I set the paper on a desk top, the curl is pretty significant - just under thumb height. I waited over four days on one batch of paper and it remained curled. I tried 20, 24, 28 and even 32 pound laser and color laser paper. No change. Now the paper path on the Brother machine is pretty acute, and combine that with the extreme heat and you have the result I discovered.

I went back to the store where I purchased the machine and found the same issue with the store display - I just didn’t notice how extreme it was until I was handling the documents.

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention another small glitch with this printer: the noise. If you plan on sitting this anywhere near a person (especially the right side of the printer), the fans are pretty loud, shattering typical office ambience.

Besides these two issues, the printer networked easily. The setup CD was quick, painless, and easy to install on both my Mac and PC. Quality is high, with a solid build and unremarkable colors (i.e., fits right in). Again, the curling paper doesn’t work for me; you may find it otherwise.

I was looking for a cheap color laser printer with a built-in duplexer. The Brother 4070CDW delivers that, with good text quality. The color quality is a little weak, but overall it still seems like extremely good value.

First the good:

* Black-and-white text quality is excellent: crisp and clear.

* Setup was very straightforward, with clear and simple instructions.

* It is silent when in sleep mode, and wakes up in around 15 seconds.

Minor weaknesses:

* Colors tend to be somewhat subdued. (For the price and the media, this is what I was expecting.) As is common with color laser printers, it seems fine for printing out web pages or powerpoint but not for any application requiring very bold or very accurate colors.

* Pages tend to get slightly curled.

* Double sided printing is significantly slower than single-sided. The documentation says around 20 sides per minute for single-sided, but only 7 sides per minute double-sided.

Overall, the 4070CDW more than meets my expectations. For $500 (less now!) I’m very happy with both the functionality and the print quality, especially for text.

This is an exceptionally crafted piece. It pours surprisingly well also. A little nervous about knocking it over however.

This is a really nice decanter, like many of riedel’s products it is a beautiful piece of craftsmanship in addition to being a very functional decanter.

This gorgeous decanter makes a perfect birthday present. It is very sturdy, so one does not have to worry about it tipping over. Additionally, even though it does not look it, it will fit a full bottle of wine. And it will brighten up absolutely anything!

This printer was purchased for our office. We’ve had it a little over a year and have had endless problems with it. In attempting to print a 10 page document, it’s not unusual to get 3 - 4 paper jams! The rollers by the printer exit door cover keep coming out too. The paper does not seat well in the top paper tray, which may also be contributing to the problems. When it does print, the quality is decent and I appreciate the double sided feature. However, I would caution you strongly against this printer it’s been a real headache for our department. There is another department that has the same model of printer and have also had problems with it.

The printer works as advertised, generally. It has an unfortunate affinity for jamming with heavier weight paper - no matter what the handbook says; but with patience it works quite well.

I love this printer - the price is great, it produces EXCELLENT 11×17 prints from CAD and PDF files, it is completely driver compatible and worked immediately. Additionally, it isn’t too huge for my home office. A+++

This movie is a strange mix of laughs, chills, and the usually oddity of any movie with Dom Deluise in it. I have watched this movie since I was little and I still love it. The interesting cast of characters and surprisingly good storyline keep the entertainment going throughout the whole movie. And Gene Wilder, Gilda Radner and the others do a great job of making you laugh one minute, and sneak under the blanket the next. A wonderful movie for those times that you want something fulfilling to watch.

It’s a rare event that I find someone who knows about this movie other than myself… but those who HAVE seen it absolutely adore it! Gene and Gilda together at their best, in love on film as in life… what more can you say? Funny, touching, memorable. You MUST see this movie. Dom deLouise in drag is worth it, if nothing else. ;)

I sat at my computer as my son watched Paulie, which I thought was going to be a silly.; stupid movie(ie amazon has it paired up with mouse hunt as a combo deal) . At first it did seem like a typical goofy talking animal thing…but at some oint I found myself glued to the piece…this is a movie that can be kind of dumb, but also dares to be smart, sensitive entertainment. There are great contributions throughout, funny lines, and a sentimental moment or two. The tone of the movie is much more reverant and lovely than I thought it would be.
Again, if it wasn’t for my son, these movies would never exist is my psyche….this is a nice little movie…let’s hear it for nice.

I am an adult. No children. Not a fan of animated films (didn’t much like “Babe”). That said, this film completely captivated me and even left me believing in the enduring power of love and the great importance of it in our topsy-turvy world.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Paulie! Click Here

Bought it on a fluke after reading a few reviews while surfing [...]. Didn’t expect much. Got everything.

I highly recommend it, both for adults and children (what a perfect film for a family to watch together), and here’s why.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Paulie! Click Here

Oh, where to start. I would start with the fact that the most perfect voice was chosen to be our talking, and very smart, albeit sad, Paulie. Actor Jay Morh (the voice) also plays a role in the film very well indeed. His voice as a human is completely different than that of Paulie’s, which shows this actor’s talented skill.

Now what else do we have. A script which is entirely unpredictable. There is nothing trite, no cliches, the screenwriting (by Laurie Craig) is at its best, original and highly creative.

The story, well, it flows along, happy at times and sometimes sad. Sometimes very, very happy, and sometimes very, very sad. But the outcome is one of the most beautiful and sensitive scenes I have ever seen in any film.

The acting: one of the country’s most sterling actresses, Gena Rowlands, excels in her role as an eccentric, impulsive, loving and honest woman who befriends Paulie to the max. I believe the other great performance in the film was given by Tony Shalhoub, who has gone on to such great success since the making of this film. On watching “Paulie,” one can easily see why. His performance is sensitive and touching, honest and just plain admirable.

Also, great commendations to the film’s director, John Roberts, for finding the truth within himself to direct a story with such integrity.

And let’s not forget the 14 conures, all who play Paulie with such poignant believability, or the dancing ensemble of conures who perform a musical routine (even in costume) as well as humans could do it.

Have a good time with this one, no matter how old you are. It’s actually insprirational, although it hits the highest mark in all areas!

V - The Final Battle is available for streaming or downloading.

Anyone who has seen “V” will want to see this sequel, as well. “V” was one of most original made-for-television movie of its time. It spawned this sequel and its very own television series. It was able to do this with a cast of virtual unknowns because of the strength of its story line. “V” is simply great sci-fi, and “V - The Final Battle” is a must have DVD for all those fans who enjoyed the original mini-series.

As those of you familiar with “V” already know, human looking alien visitors landed on Earth, led by an alien innocuously called John (Richard Herd), who gave Earth a benevolent message that fooled many into thinking that the visitors came in peace. Some humans even ended up working collaboratively with them. There were some, however, that were skeptical of the visitors’ motives, and mistrust turned to fear when scientists and doctors began to be rounded up and mysteriously disappeared.

Mike Donovan (Marc Singer), a hunky cameraman, had his own misgivings about the aliens, but once he observed the visitors literally shedding their skins, revealing that that they were not human at all, but rather, nothing more than reptilian looking aliens, his misgivings were reinforced. Mike also discovered that they meant mankind harm and were hell-bent of the conquest of Earth and divestiture of one of Earth’s most important natural resources without which humans cannot live.

Mike joined the resistance, headed by beautiful medical doctor, Julie Parish (Faye Grant). As the underground resistance battled the visitors, many humans were still convinced that the visitors were benevolent and being misjudged by these so-called freedom fighters. As fascist rule supplanted democratic government throughout the world, under the pretext of law and order and at the direction of the visitors and at the behest of their human puppets, the viewer cannot help but be aware of the allegorical implications.

This two disc DVD provides three episodic treats. The resistance continues its struggle against the visitors with the assistance of an alien fifth column, working secretly together, side by side. Mike Donovan and Julie Parish are now joined by irascible and laconic Ham Tyler (Michael Ironside), a former special forces agent with a chip on his shoulder and the military strategy necessary to coalesce the resistance movement into a lean, mean, fighting machine.

This sequel mini-series is action packed, as the visitors and the resistance fighters duke it out for control over the Earth. The exquisitely beautiful, evil alien, Diana (Jane Badler), stops at nothing to secure her ambitions. Not content with being the science officer for the invading forces, she seeks military glory at all cost. She is the one from whom both humans and aliens have much to fear.

The allegorical thread also continues, as humans begin to be rounded up routinely and trucked off to a processing plant. After all, it is the visitors fervent desire to serve man…literally. It seems that in addition to the Earth’s water, the visitors are secretly looking to humans as a food source.

There are some interesting special effects for its time, as well as some cheesy ones. There are also some key performances. Most notable are those of Jane Badler, in the role of the diabolical Diana, and Michael Ironside, as Ham Tyler, the alien hating resistance fighter. Look also for Robert Englund, who would go on to Freddy Kreuger fame the same year as the release of this mini-series sequel. He continues in the role of Willie, a peaceful loving visitor who allies himself with the resistance.

This film has everything, suspense, action, thrills, a gripping story line, a moral message, and an inter-species birth. How can anyone resist? This is sci-fi as it should be. Bravo!

The DVD provides a crystal clear, widescreen picture and perfect audio, but little else. It provides none of the interesting extras found on the “V” DVD. Instead, the buyer will have to be satisfied with the usual interactive menus, as well as scene access, and subtitles available in English, French. Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, Bahasa, Thai, and Korean. All in all, notwithstanding its shortcomings, this is a DVD well worth having in one’s collection, if one is a sci-fi diehard.

It is unfortunate that the television series based upon this highly successful mini-series did not fare well. The knuckleheads in charge of programming sentenced it to death right from the beginning by scheduling it opposite the then number one television show, “Dallas”. The series never even had a chance coming out of the gate. I only hope that a DVD collection of the series will be forthcoming.

Sure, a bold and sweeping statement. Also, utterly true. Television viewers of 1984 had never seen anything like V, and anyone who has seen it would agree that there’s been nothing made since to even remotely touch it in terms of sheer entertainment.

V: The Final Battle consisted of the last three 2-hour installments of the series, preceded by the first two installments of V aired the previous year. Aliens have finally arrived on Earth, looking like us and posing as friends to all mankind while their motherships hover menacingly over every major city of the world. But cameraman Mike Donovan infiltrates the Los Angeles mothership and makes an astounding discovery: the benevolent “Visitors” are actually reptiles in disguise, intent on harvesting all of the natural resources of the planet, which includes tapping us humans as a food source! Donovan joins up with a rag-tag resistance movement led by Julie Parish, and together they lead their fugitive band in the overthrow of alien tyranny.

Like any great work of SF, V hits a lot of hot-button social issues, including abortion, inter-racial relationships and tolerance, and cultish brainwashing. And the allegory of the Visitor infiltration of our world to the rise of Naziism in 30’s Europe is hard to miss. Right down to the Visitor insignia, a sort of high-tech update of the Swaztika, as well as scenes with truckloads of confused humans being transported in the middle of the night to Visitor “processing” plants. Joining with the social commentary is a fine and able cast, led by “Beastmaster” Marc Singer as the independant Donovan and Faye Grant as the tough yet fragile resistance leader Parish. Heading the Visitor invasion is Jane Badler as the catty Diana, along with thier supreme leader John, played by Richard Herd. These main players are surrounded by a wonderful supporting cast, all of whom are given time to be fleshed out into full-fledged characters you care about. In particular, Michael Ironside gives a knock-out performance as hardass “Ham” Tyler, an ex-CIA spook with little social grace but a lot of firepower. V is wonderfully well crafted, with its rousing action sequences, amazing-for-TV SFX, and surprisingly touching moments. And they really creep things up with two show-stopping sequences: Grant’s powerful interrogation scenes, and the unforgettable “birth” sequence, a true SF classic. Even the dodgy puppeteering can’t keep me from the edge of my seat everytime I watch it.

But, this IS SF, and this IS TV, so we have some obligatory lapses in logic. Why do the visitors stay in thier human disguises even when out of human view on their ships? Speaking of which, how does a thin layer of fake skin create such a convincing human appearance for these lizard-like menaces? And how, with thousands upon thousands of soldiers and 50 ships three miles across hovering over every major city, do the Visitors manage to keep losing to the rabble resisters? And is it just me, or is the V:TFB music theme suspiciousy similar to that of “The Terminator”, also released this year? The answer, of course, is who cares?! Just enjoy the ride and don’t ask so many questions, okay? Also, while the mini-series remarkably doesn’t feel too dated even 15-16 years after it was made, its pedigree occasionally pokes through. In particular, in V:TFB, the scene where Mike and Julie finally hook-up really stands out as a glaring piece of early 80’s cheese.

In what has become a market of extremely lame disease/disaster-of-the-week TV movies, V was something really special: an epic SF event, lovingly crafted and with no expense spared. I hasten to add that it was a defining moment for the generation that saw the rise of Pac-Man and Mario into popular culture. The TV movies were followed that fall by V: The Series, which struggled for a year and was finally cancelled. Original broadcaster NBC has attempted to recapture the magic of V with a number of fantasy TV “events” in recent years, including “Gulliver’s Travels”, “The Odyssey”, “Merlin” and “The 10th Kingdom”. None of which possessed the same elusive magic as V, however. It was simply a stunning achievement, one I’m afraid to say may never be repeated again.
